G2 Solis 18 Note Handpan | Ember Steel

As we were preparing for Heartland Hangout 2025, we wanted to create something different—something that didn’t exist yet in our collection or in the wider world of handpans. We took our well-loved G Sabye 17 and began exploring how to expand its voice. The result was the G2 Solis 18.

We redesigned the layout to follow a scale-based pattern that plays up the scale on the top shell and steps down the scale on the bottom shell. This makes the instrument feel more intuitive under the hands—especially for players who like to explore full-range diatonic movement across the instrument.

This handpan has a 4-octave range, a rare design choice that gives it both reach and flexibility. It’s tuned in G major, and leans bright, open, and resonant in tone. While anyone can enjoy the sound, this model was built more with advanced players in mind—those who appreciate unique layouts and like a bit of a challenge

At Heartland, many players described it as “sunny” or “full of light,” so we named it Solis—Latin for "sun." With the G2 anchoring the bottom and crisp, high melodies at the top, the scale has both weight and lift.
